Lucene in Action eBook

Open Source, Tech Add comments

Lucene is in my top list of open source projects. It is quality.

Erik Hatcher and Otis have done a great job on the Manning book, and it was good to hear that it is now available.

I even have a case study on how TheServerSide integrated Lucene in there.

The Lucene in Action e-book is now available at Manning’s site:

http://www.manning.com/hatcher2

Manning also put lots of other goodies there, the table of contents, “about this book”, preface, the foreward from Doug Cutting himself (thanks Doug!!!), and a couple of sample chapters. The complete source code is there as well.

Now comes the exciting part to find out what others think of the work Otis and I spent 14+ months of our lives on.

Huge Selection of High Quality, Low Priced Ebooks

Have you downloaded any of those over-price ebooks recently? Nowadays, there are a great many ‘experts’ producing fluffed up 300 page, bloated ebooks that the sell for $67 or $97 a pop.

The majority of these fluffed-up monsters would be reduced to just a few pages without all the needless, page count expanding filler.

A short while ago, I downloaded an over-priced ebook about how to make $30,000 a month from Google’s AdSense program. I plowed thru the bloated manual of over 180 pages and the only wisdom was that you should make the AdSense ads look like they’re part of your website, instead of looking like ads.

In order to defend the high price, the ebook had page after page of frivilous, unnecessary information, just to increase the bulk. Who would pay the high price if the fluff was removed and the ebook was only a few pages, may 10 or 15?

Fortunately, a new idea in ebooks is becoming quite popular – ebooks that don’t have to be pumped up with filler to make them appear worth the money. No fluff, no filler – just the info you’re looking for without wading thru page after page of junk. Prices so low that the $97 ebook gurus might have a heart attack!

How cheap? How about seven dollars?

Have you bought any of those $97 ebooks lately? A great many people are writing fluffed up ebooks that have little valuable information, but they sell for $47 or more.

The vast majority of these bloated ebooks would be less than a dozen pages if you removed all the useless fluff!

Not too long ago, I purchased a high priced ebook from a well-known AdSense expert who claims to make thirty thousand dollars a month from AdSense. I spent hours reading thru all the garbage to find the only wisdom there was to fool people into thinking the ads were part of your site navigation links.

This was a case of taking ten pages worth of info and blowing it up to nearly 200 pages just to give the illusion of value! Who would pay the high price if the fluff was removed and the ebook was only a few pages, may 10 or 15?

A new wave of ebooks has recently emerged – short ebooks that have just what you need and nothing else just for filler. The idea here is that you get the important information you’re really looking for, without all the junk. Prices so low that the $97 ebook gurus might have a heart attack!
