Its that time of year again. Oscar season is upon us. And, on the IT side we have the infamous JDJ awards.
I always get a kick out of seeing what products get put in the list to choose from.
I always shake my head at some of them.
E.g. “Best Enterprise Database”. There is NO PostgreSQL or MySQL. I mean come on. The funniest part is that although these aren’t there HSQLDB *is*.

This is exactly why we need to start an open source only set of awards (where the ballot box cannot be stuffed).

I tried – a number of times, in fact – to float ways that the JDJ awards could be repaired. Yet, as usual… the awards are ludicrous. I personally preferred the editor’s choice awards, but I can’t imagine why….

I’m not saying the awards are perfect but MySql and Postgres are not written in Java. I always thought the awards were for stuff actually written in Java or at least have more to do with Java than having a JDBC driver.

Note that ‘Best Enterprise Database’ doesn’t have the ‘Java’ moniker that other categories too.
And, I don’t think that you can say Oracle/DB2/Sybase are exactly WRITTEN in Java. A lot of these DB’s have the ability to run Java within etc…

I would like to anti-nominate MySQL.
