I completely agree with you Dion, and that's why I made something like reddit but more focused on the .self posts. I wanted to make a lot of options for users to browse as well as give them a ton of freedom.

Things just started rolling, but I'm still working on it. If you're interested or something let me know or stop by. It's tough because I'm doing everything on my own sans partners and I keep working 8-14 hour days on things. q.q

Very interesting approach. I'm confident we're going to see soon some decent, non-competing with reddit, developments. Wikipedia for example has wikitravel (and not only).

Hi Dion,
I hope that you are doing well and that 2008 will be a gear year.

"I want it to show me the “important” news of the day with me at the center of the bell curve. Use my friends of friends": we are currently experimenting with an project called feeddo which attempts to do exactly this - by extending Google Reader. It is still early but if/when you have the time, I would love to show it to you and get your feedback. It would be a good way to catch up with gears as well.

You can reach me by email at edwink (at) devhd.com

Cheers,
Edwin

The ability to make a restricted reddit is a pretty cool way for a company to waste time together on the same sites. Beyond the sarcasm, its actually a cool way to collect bookmarks for resources relevant to your business.

As far as being a way to aggregate news on a specific topic, Yahoo Pipes is my tool of choice. I was able to mash together a bunch of feed sources and put a filter on certain words. Very useful.
