I can tell you from this side of the pond (Ireland), that anybody I've talked to is desperately hoping Obama gets in. Ultimately, it's all about confidence and he instils confidence in people in the same way as Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton did, instead of playing on people's fears the way McCain and Bush (what an utter disaster) are doing.
But don't take any comfort from the polls. I remember living in England in 1992, Labour were 12 points ahead. Even the exit polls indicated that they would get in with a large majority, and still the Conservatives squeezed it. Luckily, he doesn't seem to be taking anything for granted, and I think at the end of the day, Americans will make the right choice.

It is correct to say that this country needs to do some growing up, for America is so very immature, blind and inept. For race to be considered as important at this time is ridiculous and stated to avoid what really matters. For the media to waste our time with mention of racial issues, as we face a water-shed moment in our history (that will decide the role the USA plays for the remainder of the 21st century) insults our intelligence. To say that this election is the most important we may ever face, is an understatement. If McCain wins, we not only find ourselves having succumbed to ignorance we will spend, for an extended period, holding the title of being Stupid-America (SA) and easy bait for all who would squash us on their way up international ladder of world influence. If Obama wins we will be giving ourselves an opportunity to move away from the bigotry of generations and the deception and greed of the last 8 years. Hell, we may even be able to finally get past the 'race issue'.
Barack will win and we will be proud and the world will join in a champagne toast to wish us well, it will be our bar-mitzvah as the US reaches the equivalent of adulthood.......Mazel Tov!
