Oracle to maybe buy JBoss, Zend, Sleepycat

Tech Add comments

Wow. Interesting.

  • IBM: “PHP is a great way to do web dev”
  • Oracle: “Hmm, let’s buy it”
  • IBM: “Do we fight for it? Or backtrack and say that Ruby on Rails is the way?”

It will be interesting to see if all of these purchases go through. VC’s want to make money back from their investments… so as long as Oracle is ready to pay, it probably will happen, no?

I am kicking myself, as I had the chance to join one of these guys recently ;)

  1. David Heinemeier Hansson Says:

Backtrack? You mean _upgrade_, right :)?

  2. Dion Says:

Backtrack == backtrack from their public work promoting PHP (not that they do not promote MANY other platforms / languages. They are after all kinda large ;)

That doesn’t mean to say that Ruby/Rails is a downgrade from PHP ;)

Maybe IBM will put some folks onto JRuby, and force into making Ruby have a killer implementation to match its language, environment, and community :)
