Why does everyone feel the need to defend Apple for unacceptably crappy service? Feel free to tell me that you'd have waited for one, but don't tell me what I should have done.

You're right though, I didn't really _need_ a $3k MacBook Pro. A sub $2k Dell with better specs will do just fine. I was buying the MacBook as a toy, which is why I was willing to pay the premium, and why once they ruined the fun, why I was OK about cancelling it.

I run IntelliJ IDEA, Firefox, and Photoshop. My current Dell does all of those well, and the new one will surely do it better/faster.

Try Darwin Ports instead of Fink, I find it's a lot simpler and more reliable:

Mark,
Not to rain on your parade but Apple did the same thing to a lot of people, namely Me (I order an hour after the keynote) and I got a shipment notice 3 days ago at midnight. I think they just did that "to be safe", anyway my MBP gets here tommorow.

I would like to add that if you cancelled an order for a potentially $3k laptop out of anger, you probably didn't need it in the first place and are better served keeping that money in your wallet.

Apple screwed up my order. I had ordered the day after the keynote, so I was expecting delivery this week. When I checked my order status Monday night, it had finally updated... with a new ship date of 3/21. Somehow I was booted to the end of the queue. People ordering that day were getting 3/21 ship dates. Apple "customer service" told me there was nothing they could do.

Apple effectively took a big crap on my belated Christmas, so I canceled my order. I was pretty disappointed.

Oh well. Another few years with another Dell for me.

Hi Dion,

what's the battery life like? Apple's website doesn't even mention it yet, so I'l really curious to know.

Best regards,

Geert

I've been using SVN on my Intel Mac for about 8 months. Did you recompile it or are you using Rosetta to run it?
